Professor Christopher R. Stones

Christopher R. Stones is a Clinical Psychologist and Professor of Psychology based in Honeydew, Johannesburg. His areas of focus include adolescent, adult and couples psychotherapy, corporate-based consulting, and medico-legal and forensic psychology - which includes psychological profiling related to crime scene analysis.

Christopher Stones has extensive management and organisational experience: He was Head of the Department of Psychology at Rhodes University for 12 years until 2006. He also spent 7 years as Deputy Dean and then Dean of the Faculty of Social Science at Rhodes University.

Professor Stones was directly involved in assisting with the establishment of the MTN Centre for Crime Prevention Studies in 1999 and later served as the Behavioural Management Specialist with the Special Investigating Unit from 2006 until late 2014.

Christopher Stones also served as the head of the Postgraduate Psychology Research Programme at the University of Johannesburg for 5 years until 2012, and assisted as a visiting Professor in the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management at the University of Johannesburg until 2016.

He is a member of several Professional Societies, including the International Academy of Behavioural Medicine, Counselling and Psychotherapy (USA), The International Academy of Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy, Inc. (USA), the British Psychological Society (BPS) (as a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow) and the Society for Psychotherapy Research (UK) as well as the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA).

He was also an Executive Council Member of PsySSA for 5 years and is a Consultant Psychotherapist of the South African Institute for Psychotherapy.

As a registered Clinical Psychologist with the Professional Board for Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), Christopher Stones is bound by a strict code of ethics, which he proudly upholds in order to serve his patients and community.
